NEW YORK (77 WABC) — An MS-13 gang member was taken into custody in the Bronx. Federal immigration officials say the suspect made threats to cops in the same precinct where two officers were shot last week.
ICE agents arrested Armando Clemente-Ramos Thursday, the New York Daily News.
He was reportedly arrested just to get him “off the street” with additional charges pending.
Officers in the 41st Precinct received a tip that someone planned to harm them. An alert was sent to NYPD desk officers and passed along on social media. The Sergeants Benevolent Association posted the photo with this warning, “NYPD COPS ASSASSINATION THREAT.”
“Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) was made aware of a threat to the law enforcement community here in New York City. As a result, HSI special agents investigated the threat and subsequently made an arrest. This investigation is still ongoing,” HSI’s statement said.
The station house is temporarily limiting access for the public on Longwood Avenue. A metal barricade blocked off the wheelchair ramp.
There were three officers– members of the anti-terrorism Strategic Response Group — stationed outside the door, while a marked NYPD SUV closed off the parking lot as two cops stood on foot patrol.
Robert Williams, 45, was taken into custody Sunday morning after storming into the precinct, firing multiple shots, including wounding Lt. Jose Gautreaux in the arm. Police say he also opened fire hours earlier in a police van where he allegedly shot Officer Paul Straffolino.
Both officers were treated in the hospital and released.
