8th Annual Holiday Train Show (Activities for Children & Families)
Time: 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Location: New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex
Celebrate the holiday season with the New York Transit Museum’s annual Holiday Train Show. On a two level 34 foot long layout, Lionel trains travel through a miniature Manhattan to the North Pole. A new Long Island Railroad train joins Metro-North, New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad cars on the elevated track, while New York City Transit’s R-27 subway cars run below. Vintage Lionel trains from the museum’s collection are also on view. And for your holiday shopping the museum’s store and booth at the Holiday Gift Fair in Vanderbilt Hall offer a wide array of subway and railroad gifts.
"Lenape: Ellis Island's First Inhabitants", Opening Ceremony (Museum Exhibit)

On November 2, New York First Lady Michelle Paige Paterson will present a proclamation from Governor David A. Paterson to honor the native people of New York during the opening ceremony of Lenape: Ellis Island’s First Inhabitants at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. The includes six galleries housing a stunning collection of prehistoric artifacts, traditional crafts, ceremonial objects, antique books, maps, archival photographs, dioramas, and sculptures. This collection is brought to life with the oral histories of Lenape tribal members, both past and present. The November 2 opening ceremony will commence at 11 AM in the Ellis Island Immigration Museum Conference Room and will be open to the public.
Last Day of the Myrtle Avenue El: Photographs by Theresa King (Museum Exhibit)
Time: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Location: New York Transit Museum
At midnight on October 3rd, 1969 the last train on the Myrtle Avenue El departed Borough Hall. After eighty years of service the line would be demolished. Photographer Theresa King, who rode the train daily in her childhood, spent the day documenting the trains, stations, passengers and views from the elevated platform. Forty years later this photo essay, shot in a single day, provides a glimpse into the past and preserves a memory of growing up in Brooklyn.
Gingerbread House Workshop (Activities for Children & Families)

Candy Canes, Gumdrops, and more...children will get into the holiday spirit when they decorate their own Gingerbread House at this popular, annual Liberty Hall event. $17 per child, includes all workshop materials. Reservations Required.
An Old-Fashioned Christmas Celebration (Activities for Children & Families)

Deck the halls...experience the magic of the holiday season when Liberty Hall is transformed for an old-fashioned Christmas celebration. Program Fee: Adults: $10, Seniors, College Students, Children: $6, Children under Three. Free. Reservations Required.
